چکیده

The Occlusion Dose Monitor was first made by Allistair Fielder and Merrick Moseley in the early ninetees (Fielder et al., 1995) and miniaturized, following a suggestion by Paul van der Maas, the initiator of the RAMSES birth-cohort study on vision sceening (Groenewoud et al., 2010), by Cees Romijn and other electrotechnicians at the Academical Medical Center in Amsterdam in 1996 and 1997 (Simonsz, 1997). It can now be obtained, following a recent decision of the European Patent Office, in the following European countries: AL, AT, BA, BE, BG, CH, CS, CY, CZ, DE, DK, ES, EE, FI, FR, GB, GR, HR, HU, IE, IS, IT, LI, LT, LV, LU, MC, ME, MK, MT, NL, NO, PL, PT, RO, RS, SE, SI, SK, SM, TR. A series will be produced by collaboration of the Academical Medical Center and the Technical University Delft with a constructor of electronic compliance devices. Those interested in obtaining a series, for research on compliance with patch wearing in treatment for amblyopia, may send an inquiry and these will be forwarded to the manufacturer.

Efficiency of electronically monitored amblyopia treatment between 5 and 16years of age: New insight into declining susceptibility of the visual system

The notion of a limited, early period of plasticity of the visual system has been challenged by more recent research demonstrating functional enhancement even into adulthood. In amblyopia ("lazy eye") it is still unclear to what extent the reduced effect of treatment after early childhood is due to declining plasticity or lower compliance with prescribed patching. The aim of this study was to d...

Compliance and patching and atropine amblyopia treatments

In the past 20 years, there has been a great advancement in knowledge pertaining to compliance with amblyopia treatments. The occlusion dose monitor introduced quantitative monitoring methods in patching, which sparked our initial understanding of the dose-response relationship for patching amblyopia treatment. This review focuses on current compliance knowledge and the impact it has on patchin...

A randomized controlled trial of unilateral strabismic and mixed amblyopia using occlusion dose monitors to record compliance.

PURPOSE To investigate compliance with patching therapy and the dose-effect relationship in occlusion therapy in amblyopia by recording the effective patching time using occlusion dose monitors (ODMs). METHODS Fifty-two children with strabismic or mixed amblyopia (Snellen equivalent, 6/12-6/48) were given optimal refractive correction and randomly allocated for 12 weeks into three treatment g...

Glued patches for children resistant to amblyopia occlusion therapy.

Occlusion of the healthy eye is the mainstay of amblyopia treatment. Occlusion therapy has practical limitations; many children actively resist treatment and some parents are marginally compliant with instructions. Even when parents are knowledgeable about amblyopia and patching, 22% report poor compliance. Strategies such as atropine, hand socks, inflatable water wings, benzoin tincture, occlu...

Virtual reality for interactive binocular treatment of amblyopia

Amblyopia, or ‘lazy eye’, is currently treated by wearing an adhesive patch over the nonamblyopic eye for several hours per day, over a period of many months. Non-compliance with patch wearing is a significant problem. Our multi-displinary team involved clinicians and technologists to investigate the application of VR technology in a novel way. We devised a binocular treatment system in which c...
